KVCC is currently seeking an adjunct instructor for our Fermenting and Finishing Technology class beginning the second eight week Fall 2017 semester. This course will provide students with an understanding of technological design, materials of construction (including pressure vessels), operation and performance of fermenting and finishing equipment and support equipment from wort-stage through finished bright beer production. Fermenting and finishing equipment discussed will include vessels, pumps, piping, valves, filters, carbonators, refrigeration, CIP (cleaning in place) and SIP (sanitization in place) systems, venting and counter pressure systems, measurement devices, electrical components and computer automation. Personal safety and safe operation of fermenting equipment and proper management of fermenting and finishing by-products and waste products will be studied.

Business aspects of sustainable fermenting and finishing operations covered will include management, scheduling and reporting using dashboards. Case studies, inspection of KVCC teaching brewery equipment and excursions to local breweries will allow students to assess equipment installations directly.

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant employment experience in the brewing industry is required. Candidates for this position must also possess a Bachelor’s degree in a field applicable to the brewing process (e.g., science, engineering, occupational studies). Strong interpersonal communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Certification related to brewing or a Master’s degree related to an area of instruction covered within the KVCC Sustainable Brewing program is strongly preferred.

Experience teaching at the college-level or teaching adult learners along with experience with the development and assessment of courses and programs is desirable.
